Planning
The Lancaster County Planning Department is responsible for all of the planning activities which take place within Lancaster County. The department is responsible for writing all of the regulations which govern development within its jurisdiction and providing technical support to the County Council and the general public in preparing for the future growth and development of the county. The Planning Department is responsible for assisting the Planning Commission with guidelines to support community conservation efforts, preserve natural resources, and encourage smart growth and development.
Planning Staff also provides administrative support and presents reports on applications to the Planning Commission and the Board of Zoning Appeals (see subject matter jurisdiction below).
PLANNING COMMISSION hears applications for: Rezonings, Preliminary Plats, Development Agreements, Mixed -Use Master Plans, Conditional Use Permits, New Road Names/ Road Name Changes, and Text Amendments to the Unified Development Ordinance.
