Board of Zoning Appeals

The Board of Zoning Appeals is responsible for making decisions when an individual does not agree with the decision of a zoning enforcement officer, requests a variance from the standard zoning regulations or needs a special exception permit. This Board acts as a quasi-judicial body. Therefore, the decisions of this Board can only be appealed to Circuit Court.

Authority: Ordinance adopted by the Lancaster County Council on 7/25/94 (#240).

Governing Body: The Board of Zoning Appeals is composed of 7 members representing the 7 County Council Districts. Residency in the Council Member's district is required.

Term of Office: 4 year terms. Members may serve 2 consecutive terms, but will thereafter be ineligible for appointment for a period of two years.
